Larger bowls generally tend toward a fuller, lower sound, but the exact tone and sustain also depend on wall thickness, alloy, individual construction, and playing technique. Diameter alone does not guarantee a particular note.
Two Simple Ways to Play
- First strike: place the bowl securely on its cushion or on an open, relaxed palm. Tap the outer wall lightly and let the sound fade naturally.
- Rim tone: hold the striker upright against the outside rim and move it slowly in one complete circle using steady, light pressure.
