A daily ritual for calm
Make a little room for stillness.
When your day feels crowded, begin by leaving a little space. Arrange a stone, draw a current through the white sand and pause before the next line. The Japanese Karesansui Zen Garden offers a quiet practice for easing out of the rush and returning to the moment in front of you.
Tray size: 32 × 15 × 3.5 cm (12.6 × 5.9 × 1.4 in).
A quiet pause between one thing and the next
Before opening your laptop, between meetings or as work comes to an end, reach for the bamboo rake. Draw a path around a stone and notice where the lines meet the open sand.
The long paulownia wood tray gives your hands room to move without filling your whole desk. Keep a familiar landscape for a few days, or smooth it away when you want a fresh beginning.
Sand, stone and the space between
Inspired by Japanese dry landscapes, the sand can suggest water and the stones can become islands or mountains. Place the stones with space around them, then draw lines, arcs or circles. These ideas offer a starting point; your garden does not need to follow a prescribed composition.
A landscape with its own character
Each set contains 3–4 selected, hand-finished natural stones. Their shapes, colours and textures vary, so your arrangement begins with something individual. The tray is sanded smooth by hand, bringing warm wood into the practice.
For a friend beginning a new chapter, someone drawn to Japanese gardens or a person making time for themselves, it offers a considered wish: may there be a little more room for calm in your day.
Everything for your first moment
One hand-finished paulownia wood tray, one bottle of fine white sand, 3–4 selected and hand-finished natural stones, and one bamboo rake.
Before you begin
Do I need to know about Zen gardens to use it?
No. Pour the sand into the paulownia-wood tray, place the natural stones, then use the bamboo rake to draw a line or curve around them. You can rearrange the landscape whenever you return to it.
Are the stones natural?
Yes. The stones are natural and selected by hand. Their colour, shape and texture vary, so each arrangement will look a little different.
Where will it fit?
Allow space for the 32 × 15 cm tray and a little extra room for the rake and your hands. A stable indoor desk, study table or meditation corner works well.
How do I care for it?
Keep the tray and sand dry. Use the bamboo rake or a soft dry brush to smooth the sand, wipe the wood with a soft dry cloth and carry the tray with both hands.
How is the sand packed?
The fine white sand arrives in its own bottle, ready to pour into the tray for your first arrangement.
