Pocket of Calm

A little autumn. A place to linger.

Some places stay with you long after you leave. Inspired by the autumn gardens and endearing Jizo figures of Sanzen-in Temple in Kyoto, Red Leaf brings that sense of discovery into a miniature Zen garden of your own.

Arrange the stones, draw a path through the sand, and spend a little time with the scene taking shape beneath your hands. A way to enjoy the beauty of a Japanese garden, even in the middle of an ordinary day.

An autumn encounter

A familiar smile among the autumn colors

Part of Sanzen-in’s charm is coming upon a small Jizo figure in the garden: a gentle face that invites you to linger. Our smiling figure brings that warmth to Red Leaf, with just enough sweetness to make you smile back.

The red jasper echoes the maple colors on the card, while a pale, wood-grain stone gives the scene a rocky rise. Behind them, Mount Fuji and a pagoda open up an imagined Japanese landscape. Together, they turn the temple inspiration into a world you can arrange in your own way.

A moment to yourself

Let the next line find its way

Settle in with a cup of tea, or pause between the things asking for your attention. Place the Jizo and stones in the sand, leaving room for the bamboo rake to travel around them.

Draw a curve, follow it with another, or smooth the surface and begin again. The card reads “Nothing is truly in the way.” Let it be an invitation to try another path, without needing to get the first one right.

Practical details

Caring for your garden

Will my stones look exactly like the photographs?

Each red jasper and wood-grain stone has its own natural color, markings and shape. Your set includes the same types and number of stones, with individual variations.

How should I clean and care for the garden?

Place it on a flat, stable surface and keep the sand and tin dry. Dust the figure and stones gently with a soft, dry brush. Keep loose sand and small pieces away from young children and pets.

How should I pack it for storage or travel?

Return the sand to its bag, wrap the figure and stones securely, and pack the components before closing the tin. Use the included pouch to keep the set together.

Some gardens feel quite formal to me. This one has a gentle little face at the center, and I find it easier to make an arrangement I enjoy without worrying about getting it right.

The Jizo figure gives this garden its character. I like the warm stones and the autumn-inspired card behind it.

The red jasper and wood-grain stone make a nice warm grouping. I would keep it somewhere permanent rather than pack and unpack the scene each day.
